Recruitment Notice For Junior And Senior Residents In Radiation And Clinical Oncology

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Residency Training Programme in Radiation and Clinical Oncology at The Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre in conjunction with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for the following open positions:

>  Junior Residents (Part I)
Entry-level positions for recent medical graduates.

>  Senior Residents (Part II)
Positions for medical professionals who have undergone residency training in Radiation Oncology at a reputable centre and passed Part I of the NPMCN exams.

General Qualifications

Candidates applying for the Junior Residents (Part I) positions must have:

  • Full registration with the Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
  • Current medical license to practice.
  • NYSC certificate of service or exemption as applicable.
  • At least two years of professional experience as a medical officer in a recognized hospital would be an advantage.
  • Success at the Primary Examination of either the West Africa or National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria would be an advantage.
  • Keen interest in oncology, excellent communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Recommendation letters from an academic and professional referee who is familiar with the candidate.

Candidates applying for the Senior Residents (Part II) positions must have:

  • Full registration with the Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
  • Current medical license to practice.
  • Have undergone residency training in Radiation Oncology at a reputable centre and passed Part I of the NPMCN exams.
  • Demonstrated clinical and radiation oncology expertise, leadership abilities, and strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
  • Letters of recommendation from at least two Radiation and Clinical Oncology Consultants, or Senior medical professionals familiar with the candidate’s work.

Application Process
A. Interested candidates are required to upload the following documents when applying.

  1. Completed Application Form. This is only available via our hospital’s website (www.marcelleruth.com/residency-program).
  2. Detailed CV outlining the educational background, work experience, and any relevant certifications and publications.
  3. A Cover Letter explaining the candidate’s interest in the residency program and career goals.
  4. Letters of Recommendation as specified in the qualifications section.
  5. Copies of Credentials must include MBBS certificate, MDCN registration certificate, Valid MDCN license to practice medicine, NYSC/ Exemption certificate, Pass in the Primaries/Part I examinations where applicable.
  6. Recent passport-size photograph and a valid government-issued means of Identification.

B. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Only applications completed via the application portal on the hospital’s website will be considered.

C. Applications received after the last date and time for application submission will not be considered.

D. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a selection process and the list of accepted candidates will be published on the hospital’s website on 2nd September 2024.

Interview and Selection Process

  1. Initial Screening: Applications will be reviewed to ensure all requirements are met.
  2. Written Examination: Shortlisted candidates should prepare for a written examination to assess their basic knowledge in oncology. The written exam duration will be one hour, based on the MCQs for the maximum marks of 100 and a 75% pass mark. This exam does not replace the primary exams but allows for objective assessment of candidates without primaries.
  3. Panel Interview: Successful candidates from the written examination will be invited to the next stage of the selection process for a practical assessment exercise.
  4. Panel Interview: Successful candidates from the panel interview will be invited for a panel interview with our senior oncologists and residency program directors.
  5. Final Selection: Final selections will be made based on the candidates’ overall performance. Successful candidates will be published on the Hospital’s website and notified via email and phone.

About the Residency Training at Marcelle Ruth

  1. On 3rd June 2024, The Senate of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NMPMN) granted our hospital approval and accreditation to undertake Residency Training in Radiation and Clinical Oncology in collaboration with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), one of Nigeria’s leading teaching hospitals.
  2. Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital, located at Victoria Island, Lagos, offers an exciting opportunity for career advancement and exceptional patient care in Radiation and Clinical Oncology.
  3. The duration of the Residency Training Programme is a minimum tenure of six years, divided into two parts: three years of Junior Residency (Part I) and three years of Senior Residency (Part II). It is subject to satisfactory work and conduct reports according to the NPMCN guidelines.
  4. The Hospital reserves the right to verify the authenticity of the credentials and information provided with the application form. If anything is found incorrect before, during, or after the application, the application will be rejected without further notice.
