Specialist treatments

As well as cancer, Marcelle Ruth’s team treats a range of conditions that need specialist care. Backed by years of research, training and experience, we use our advanced skills in these fields to run dedicated clinics, carry out expert surgical procedures and always provide the right support and understanding.

Concierge Health

Our Concierge Health service provides a thorough health assessment tailored to your age and needs. Offering everything from screening through to diagnosis, treatment and lifestyle planning.

>    Concierge Health at Marcelle Ruth

You will be guided through every aspect of the assessment, which will include screening, nurse and medical consultations, laboratory tests, imaging including X-rays, ultrasound scans, CT scans, mammography (for women) and colonoscopy (if needed).

We will then organise a follow-up appointment with a doctor to review your results. If we detect any medical conditions, our clinical and surgical team will develop a treatment plan, working alongside other specialists like nutritionists, physiotherapists and counsellors.

Haematology covers a wide range of blood and bone marrow disorders. These include some types of cancer, such as leukaemia and lymphoma, but also many benign conditions like anaemia, haemophilia and thrombosis.

>    Haematology clinics at Marcelle Ruth

The abnormal blood counts that cause haematological conditions produce a range of symptoms of varying severity, from feeling tired to getting more infections than normal. But conditions can respond well to expert treatment.

With state-of-the-art testing, scanning and analysis, our haematology clinics will soon get to the root of the problem. Whatever care you require in the short or long term, we’ll design a plan that meets your individual needs.

Laparoscopic surgery

Laparoscopic or “keyhole” procedures diagnose and treat conditions in the abdomen, pelvis and intestines, including digestive and gynaecological problems, and colorectal cancers. With only small incisions, they are less invasive or likely to cause pain and major scarring than traditional surgery.

>    Laparoscopic procedures at Marcelle Ruth

In our purpose-built operating theatres, highly experienced surgeons carry out keyhole procedures to help with diagnosis, screen for abnormalities, take biopsies and remove disease. You’ll be given a general anaesthetic but in some cases may be able to return home on the same day as a laparoscopy.

Oncology is the medical term for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, a common but serious disease that happens when abnormal cells start dividing and multiplying in the body. There are more than 100 forms of cancer, which typically cause either malignant growths or unhealthy blood cells that compromise the immune system.

>    Oncology at Marcelle Ruth

The founders of Marcelle Ruth are world-leading oncologists, who work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide the highest quality of cancer care and support.

With direct access to the latest treatments and technology, we carry out screening, diagnostic tests and surgical procedures in our state-of-the-art facilities. We are also fully equipped to deliver chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy on site, as part of a personalised treatment plan.

Sickle cell

Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder that affects how red blood cells develop, potentially causing episodes of pain, anaemia and an increased risk of serious infections. Those with the condition inherit it at birth, but it can only be passed on when both parents carry the sickle cell gene.

>    Sickle cell clinics at Marcelle Ruth

Symptoms of sickle cell disease range from mild to serious, but with the right, holistic care you can lead a happy and normal life with the condition.

At our regular clinics, we will keep a close eye on your health, offer the latest appropriate treatments and help you stay well with both medication and diet and lifestyle advice. We also provide diagnostic and screening services.

Internal medicine

The human body is complex – and numerous conditions, both chronic and acute, can affect more than one of its internal organs. When there are multiple symptoms, internal medicine plays a critical, specialist role in identifying and treating the underlying causes.

>    Internal medicine clinics at Marcelle Ruth

With expertise in the many common but complex disorders that result in ill health, our internal medicine clinics are a center of excellence for diagnosing, treating and preventing a wide range of symptoms and conditions. These include hypertension (high blood pressure), lipid disorders (high blood cholesterol and triglycerides), heart and arterial disease, diabetes, asthma, bronchitis and fatigue.

Most of the internal medicine team are also specialists in one or more of these areas. Together, they provide long-term, holistic outpatient care with both medication and advice on diet and lifestyle.

Interventional radiology

Imaging techniques like x-rays and ultrasound scans can now be used to not only diagnose but also treat medical problems inside the body. Guided by the images they’ve captured, interventional radiologists carry out procedures with great precision and less risk, pain and recovery time than open surgery.

>    Interventional radiology procedures at Marcelle Ruth

As the least invasive technique available to treat most internal organs, interventional radiology is performed wherever possible at Marcelle Ruth to improve outcomes for patients and reduce their stay in hospital.

Our interventional radiologists are specially trained doctors who use the technique in many non-urgent procedures, from taking biopsies and removing tumours to unblocking arteries.

Dermatology diagnoses and treats conditions that not only affect the skin but also hair and nails. Although most of these disorders are not life threatening in themselves, they can cause both discomfort and distress to people of all ages – or indicate another underlying condition that may need medical attention.

>    Dermatology clinics at Marcelle Ruth

Our consultant dermatologists offer rapid diagnosis and medical or minor surgical treatment for common conditions such as acne, psoriasis, birthmarks, rosacea, rashes, skin cysts, warts and scars. They also work closely with our oncologists to diagnose and treat skin cancer.

Ophthalmology is the specialist branch of medicine that diagnoses and manages eye conditions. A number of everyday disorders can affect the eyes and impair vision in people of all ages. But technology is constantly improving treatments and many conditions respond well to expert care.

>    Ophthalmology clinics at Marcelle Ruth

Although eye conditions are rarely life threatening, any problems with vision can cause distress. With skill and understanding, our clinical team is adept at treating eye injuries, inflammation and infections as well as cataracts, glaucoma, squints and many other common – and less common – conditions.

In our clinics, trained ophthalmologists use the latest technology to diagnose and treat eye disorders. When necessary, they will perform microscopic or laser surgery in our on-site operating theatre.

Injury, illness and disability can all affect your ability to move or physically function as you should. Physiotherapy from a trained professional can help you recover from or ease your condition by restoring the body’s functional abilities as fully and safely as possible.

>    Physiotherapy services at Marcelle Ruth

We offer physiotherapy to help with a wide range of health conditions, including back, neck and shoulder pain, breathing difficulties and movement problems resulting from multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease; and with rehabilitation after a sports injury heart attack or stroke.

As well as helping improve strength and mobility with tailored exercise plans, our qualified physiotherapists use manual therapy to help relieve pain and stiffness. They also provide advice on how to prevent injury or improve quality of life with better posture or lifting and carrying techniques.

Home care

When you are feeling unwell, recovering from a serious illness or approaching the end of your life, you may prefer to receive care in the comfort of your own home.

Today, regular home visits from a healthcare professional can offer the same high standards of cancer treatment, nursing or end-of-life care that you would expect from a state-of-the-art hospital like Marcelle Ruth.

>    Home care services from Marcelle Ruth

Our clinical team provides a range of specialist home care services, for as long as, and as often as, you need them. We can deliver a course of chemotherapy in the home over several weeks or months – or regular nursing care for not only cancer but also a range of conditions.

We also provide end-of-life care at home, keeping patients as comfortable as possible by managing their pain or other symptoms – and supporting both them and their family through a naturally distressing time.
