Philomena Dear friends, don’t fear cancer. Open up to your oncologist early and follow their advice. I did, and that’s why I’m alive today. Cancer runs in my family, and while others, including my father, didn’t survive, I was determined to live. A miraculous early detection saved me. Within two weeks, I had surgery, and with prompt care from Marcelle Ruth, I’ve been cancer-free for over two years.
I’ve faced multiple surgeries open heart, appendectomy, hernia repair, fibroids, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts, and even a hysterectomy. Despite it all, I am more than a conqueror. As a single mother, I raised my daughter alone, and she’s now completed her master’s degree. Through every obstacle, my absolute trust in God carried me through. Your brother will be fine. It’s great he now has a positive outlook.
After my stem cell transplant in Oxford failed five years ago and the cancer returned after three years, I was re-diagnosed with multiple myeloma two years ago. Treatments in the UK as a private patient were very expensive, but meeting Dr. Elebute Odunsi through a family friend changed everything.
At Marcell Ruth, my treatment cost was reduced by 50%, and I was allowed to pay in installments. Beyond affordability, being treated at home in Nigeria felt comforting.
I’m now retired, painting, playing music, golfing, and meditating. Medical advances have made multiple myeloma more manageable once a six-month death sentence, people now live much longer.

Thanks for sharing your experiences on this journey thereby encouraging others that it is possible to overcome cancer and that an initial diagnosis does not translate to a death sentence. Early diagnosis and prompt adequate treatment remains the key. Better diagnostic tools and treatment modalities are now available even in Nigeria.

Femi I have recently been treated for breast cancer at Marcelle Ruth and I have never seen a team of medical personnel (both home and abroad) so experienced, supporting and caring. The speed at which I was attended to from when I was diagnosed to the end of my treatment left me in awe and made me feel so special. I dare say they are born care givers. I felt at home and it made my cancer journey easier to go through because the UK came to me in Nigeria with family and friends. I couldn’t imagine being abroad alone. It helped me mentally and emotionally. I just love the team right from the gatemen to the front desk officers to the nurses to the doctors to the lab technicians to the pharmacy staff to the billing team to the administrative team to the outpatient team. How can I forget the kitchen staff, the cleaners, the radiotherapy team who made me feel so comfortable. Pray I did not forget any department. Each unit was on point. Ha! The unassuming Founder and MD, Dr. Dupe Elebute-Odunsi who would walk around talking to patients and making them feel that cancer is simply like malaria with smiles and reassuring words made it so easy to go through a journey that others would term a death sentence but not MRCC. I even made new friends which is rare.
