Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre & Specialist Hospital Lagos Signs Strategic Partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

I am incredibly moved and proud to share that we have signed a strategic partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (“RMH”) in London.

When my husband and I founded Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre & Specialist Hospital in Lagos in December 2020, our vision was simple yet profoundly ambitious: to ensure that no Nigerian has to travel abroad to receive world-class oncology care. Today, we are taking a significant step towards making that vision a permanent reality.

Having trained at The Royal Marsden during the 1990s, this is a deeply emotional full-circle moment for me. As a young oncology trainee, I could never have imagined that one day an institution we would build in Nigeria would be entering into a strategic partnership with the hospital that helped shape my professional journey.

Founded in 1851, RMH was the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education and is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading specialist cancer centres.

Having worked tirelessly alongside our dedicated clinical teams to build MRCC from ground up, seeing our institution enter into a strategic partnership with one of Europe’s most respected cancer centres is a deeply humbling milestone. This is far more than a corporate agreement; it represents a bridge for shared knowledge, advanced research, professional development and clinical expertise that will benefit patients across Nigeria and West Africa.

For every family navigating a cancer diagnosis, this partnership stands as a promise. It means access to international standards, cutting-edge science and deeply compassionate care right here in Lagos.

My deepest gratitude goes to the leadership team at RMH who shared this vision and welcomed us warmly: Ed Rose, Deputy CEO; Professor Sanjay Popat, Chief Medical Officer; Professor Chris Nutting MBBS MBA FRCP FRCR MD PhD FMedSci FBIR, Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Divisional Medical Director RMH Private Care, and especially to Professor Asif Chaudry Robotic Surgeon at The Royal Marsden and Board Member, Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) , whose commitment and leadership were instrumental in bringing both organizations together.

Special thanks also for the diplomatic and trade support that helped make this collaboration possible. We were honoured by the presence of representatives of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom, Ambassador Mercy Haruna-Adeoye, and the British High Commission in Nigeria/UK Department for Business and Trade, together with Ms Temi Marcella Olatunde, whose support reflects the importance of strengthening healthcare collaboration between the UK and Nigeria.

The fight against cancer is global, and we are stronger together.
