Yesterday’s summit brought together the people who actually decide whether Nigerian healthcare gets the capital it needs to grow, and I’m grateful to have been part of it.
Thank you to the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako for a keynote that set the tone on what healthcare financing must look like in Nigeria.
To the President of the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria Njide Ndili, for a clear-eyed call on leadership and collaboration across the sector.
To FCMB: ED Corporate Services and Service Management, Felicia Obozuwa , Head of Healthcare Chidinma Chigbo-Anachebe ,MBA,DBA(Hons) FIMC,FIHFM,DFAI , and the entire team for convening a room to discuss the future of our industry — including the launch of a new healthcare-focused fund.
I was honoured to moderate the panel, “From Survival to Scale: Building Bankable Healthcare Businesses in Nigeria” where I was able through our 6-year experience of running MRCC and from active participation from the audience to conclude on the following:
Yes, to seek financial backing, healthcare institutions need to show good governance, processes and documented financial history but also investors need to understand that healthcare funding requires patient, low-collateralised capital given in a supportive manner to allow our institutions to outlast the founders.
Rooms like this show how much can be achieved by starting with the conversation and the will!
